TICHY, Dumont
A slender woman hurrying away, two naked female knees, a girl sunbathing – these are typical motifs that the artist Miroslav Tichý captures with his camera. His approach is surprising, as he works with self-built cameras that he constructs with great skill and ingenuity.
Over the decades, Tichý has created thousands of images that revolve around the grace of the female figure. Now the Kunsthaus Zürich is presenting, for the very first time in a solo museum exhibition, a selection of more than one hundred of these extraordinary photographs. The project was developed by Tobia Bezzola, to whom I extend my sincere thanks for his great dedication and the careful conception and realization of the exhibition. He was ably assisted by Linda Schädler and a team of technicians, conservators, press officers, and exhibition secretaries. My heartfelt thanks also go to all our lenders, as well as to Roman Busbaum, co-editor of the catalogue.
Last but not least, I would of course like to thank Miroslav Tichý himself, who is presenting his photographs for the first time in a solo exhibition in a museum, thereby opening our eyes to a body of work of wondrous originality.
